Sky plots festive Home Alone format

Sky has ordered a 90-minute special delving into the science and stunts of beloved Christmas film Home Alone.

Fremantle label Naked is producing the untitled project which will feature comedians Guz Khan and James Acaster stepping into the shoes of the film’s bungling burglars, who were portrayed by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.

The duo will be assisted by an engineer as they build their own versions of some of the most memorable boobytraps and stunts from the film, including burning hot electrified doorknobs and electrocution by live cables, and learn how to overcome the traps in order to catch their own Kevin McAllister, who was played by Macauley Culkin.

Home Alone super fan Alex Brooker will also travel to America to go behind the scenes of the festive favourite and visit some of the key locations featured in the film.

The programme marks 32 years since the film’s release; it was originally prepped to mark the film’s 30th anniversary in 2020, but was delayed by the outbreak of Covid-19, according to The Sun, which first broke the news.
